The best source of genealogical information - is the Family Bible.
I'm not a rookie to these sites - I have been searching and researching for as long as these sites have been on the internet. Lately, I am noticing more and more, major mistakes on Ancestry and Find-a-Grave. Just wrong information, as if someone is deliberately skewing information or our just lazy and dumb. I know, that was harsh for me to say, but it's frustrating. I could spend hours each day, messaging those that have my family tree all wrong - I can't fix everything that is out there.
Are you protective of your family information? I am. I feel it's my duty to protect them and to match them up with their parents and children on Find-a-Grave.
ANCESTRY
Yesterday I found a photo of a grand-aunt, the sister of my grandfather. The name was similar but if the person had really done some checking, she would have found that the dates were all wrong. Thus, it led to others basically copying her information on their family trees as if it were true. They listed another woman as my grandfather's wife - Plus they use the photos that I have uploaded and allowed distant relatives to use them. Now I'm thinking I should just set it to private instead.
Another family member has different dates - because if they had just checked they would find it is a different person with a similar name.
FIND A GRAVE
Same thing going on, here. Many of the contributors rush to manage a gravesite and don't even bother to double-check information - one memorial had a family member's grave photo upside down. I mean, really? They could not see that it was upside down. I saved the exact image and uploaded the correct image right-side up. Thank God for edits! Now this family member has two grave photos - one upside down and the other right side UP.
Names are misspelled when clearly the gravestone shows the correct name spelling. This is pure laziness.
Find-a-Grave won't really do anything about it. It's like they don't want to step on any toes.
PLEASE NOTE I've made my mistakes as well - but as soon as I am notified or I figure it out myself, I immediately fix it.
I manage about 35 memorials. I've had a few transferred to me because I was a relative so I am able to protect their memory. So now I am on a mission, to check out every single one of my ancestors - making sure their information is preserved.

I've been meaning to write here for a while. Thats a shame that there are so many.mistakes. it makes me wonder what 22 yr old I tasked with putting the Information in. Obviously they don't care.
